Custody of Assets

Protection and Custody of Assets

At the Boston law firm of Taylor, Ganson & Perrin, LLP, our attorneys and fiduciaries make sure that trust assets placed in our care are secure and managed according to the highest standards. Attorneys in our law firm have been acting as a trustee for clients and their beneficiaries since 1935. We have established relationships with financial advisors and financial institutions that provide custodial services to the trusts managed by us.

Our primary custodian of financial assets such as cash, stocks, and bonds, is Charles Schwab, an established wealth management institution with branches throughout the United States. Having the assets held by a financial institution guards against theft or other malfeasance, as financial institutions carry insurance against this type of loss. It also separates the management of the overall trust from its custody, a strategy we believe offers clients an additional layer of confidence that they are receiving accurate reports of the wealth contained in the trusts. Clients can be confident that assets placed in trust with our law firm will be safe and secure.

Charles Schwab produces a periodic statements for our trustees, reporting on the value of assets and the activity in each trust account. Charles Schwab has very reasonable custodial fees, preserving more of the assets for heirs and beneficiaries. The trades undertaken by Charles Schwab are conducted at the direction of the trustees and with the guidance of our law firm’s independent investment advisor, Eaton Vance Investment Counsel.

Of course, if the creator of the trust wishes his or her assets to be held or managed at another institution, we will attempt to follow those instructions. Our hallmark is our flexibility and our dedication to client needs. If a client has an established relationship with a financial institution or securities firm and wishes to continue that relationship during the term of the trust, our attorneys and fiduciaries use their many years of experience to work with any valid institution is indicated by the client.
